A chapter in our lives is over. The young man which 3 years ago killed my daughter Cynthia Sandefur and our unborn first Grandson was sentenced today. The young man did a blind plea. I.e. he plead guilty to both counts of vehicle homicide with no strings attached and essentially threw himself at the mercy of the court.

I got a chance to stand up and tell about Cyndi’s life and what a hole has been left in our lives without Cyndi. As I told the court, the hole is large, but when all is said and done…it was an accident and don’t send the young man to prison. In the end the Judge gave him a prison sentence, suspended the sentence, put him on probation, and community service. Cyndi would not have wanted another life destroyed, so at the end of the day…this was a “fair” sentence.

After the hearing, on the sidewalk outside of the courthouse, the young man, his mom, Jenny Young and I ran into each other. I got the opportunity to shake his hand and look into his eyes and tell him to honor Cyndi’s memory and make something of his life and let him know that I have forgiven him. There were tears and hugs all around.
